This is my second post about dessert and again, it's in the category of super-fast, not-a-lot-of-effort expended. Can you tell that pastry/desserts are not my thing?
The ice cream you see in the picture is basically pureed bananas. If you puree frozen bananas in a food processor, it will turn into the texture of soft-serve. It will. Really.
I saw this recipe posted on another blog and decided to throw some over-ripe bananas in the freezer to make this for the kids on a rainy (or super-hot-melt-your-face-off) day. The original blog post has great step-by-step instructions, so I won't go into the steps in my post. But I will say that I did, indeed, add a splash of milk to help with the processing. I also added a couple of heaping tablespoons of powdered sugar to my 5 bananas to offset the small amount of bitterness in the bananas and to add more sweetness. I also through in a splash of vanilla as well.
I remember watching an episode of Good Eats with Alton Brown where he made ice cream with frozen bananas as well. His recipe was a bit more complicated, but not much more. I think his version is probably tastier. However, as long as you have some frozen bananas stashed in your freezer, this recipe is pretty convenient.
My soon-to-be 4 year-old daughter helped me make it and thought it was cool. Try it and let me know what you think.
